For our recent service project, we decided to write positive cards and post them through people’s doors. Some of the cards said ‘keep on smiling’, ‘have a nice day’, and many more. We decorated the cards using different coloured cards and pens. We thought this idea could have a positive affect on people’s days!
A few months ago we did another service project which we have previously done. We donated more food and clothing to the Worthing Churches Homeless Project. People from the community wanted to donate food/clothing to the homeless too, so we went to their houses to pick the items up to deliver to the home. The people who worked at the Worthing Churches Homeless Project were very grateful and happy when they received boxes of clothes/food for the homeless. We were also very happy that we helped people who really needed these simple items.
Next, we are hoping to go to a soup kitchen to directly serve food to the homeless. Or, we are planning on visiting the few homeless people around our community and make lunches for them.
in one of our last sessions we learned about excellence through crafts, we talked about the fact that arts and crafts can be functional as well as beautiful. We thought about what skills and qualities are necessary to create something; perseverance, patience, attention to detail, focus and creativity.
We decided to put this into practice by doing some craft.
We learnt the art of weaving from a professional weaver,it took a lot of patience and perseverance as it was quite hard to get the hang of.
We were quite happy with the art we produced in the end; here is a photo of what we created.
“The source of crafts and arts is the power of reflection Make ye every effort that out of this ideal mine there may gleam forth such pearls of wisdom and utterance as will promote the well-being and harmony of all the kindreds of the earth.”
Today we made objects out of clay. We made a bowl, some decorations, a mountain and a bird. It was very fun:)
In this lesson we talked about our cake sale. We drew pictures of moments when we felt hope or confirmation. Here are some of our thoughts and our experiences:
A moment where I felt hope and confirmation was when people turned up to buy cakes and there was a lot of conversation. There were a lot of people I had never seen before but I talked to many of them. From this experience I have learnt to talk to more people in the future because then I can make a lot of friends! 🙂
A moment when I felt hope was before the actual cake sale. We were trying to tell as many people in the community about it as we could, so we went around our streets knocking on doors and telling people what we were doing it for and giving them lots of information. Lots and lots of people said they would definitely come or help out. That was really nice because I didn’t think that many people would be interested, people seemed like they genuinely wanted to come.. they also asked a lot of things about the junior youth group and stuff. it was nice to know that so many people – some we didn’t even know- really wanted to help out and support us. :))
Doing this service project really motivated me to serve in every way I can, I think it also helped me to notice that God really does confirm us when we try our best. The picture I made in the lesson today expresses how when we were baking our cakes, we really tried our best to make them taste and look amazing- i don’t think anyone expected so many people to come:) when everyone turned up, i felt confirmed:D
